Dominators interview by Danny Chaudoin

DANNY   First I want to thank you for taking your time to do this interview, can you tell us about the beginning and some history about Dominators?

BORIS   It’s always a pleasure talking with you, my friend. The idea for the band began in 2013, when, I was on guitar and my friend drummer Robi Ratkic started jamming in the underground shelter. We were in the middle of our 30s, without any experiences and didn’t have a clue what we were doing but we had a lot of fun. I miss that time very much. Later Robi needed more time for his family so I continued the music project by myself. I found a “stage” name for myself” Schmyncker Cleethoris Pisdolisaire” and a name for the band, Dominators. The idea was starting a real band with at least 4 members. Well, obviously that didn’t happened but that’s O. K.

DANNY  How about some of the bands and musicians that influenced you, the ones that inspired you to pick up the guitar?

BORIS  Oh, I don’t even know where to begin. Every metal genre has something interesting... but in general I like everything with strong and distorted sound. I would say that my biggest influences are Metallica (Kirk Hammett) and Deicide especially the stuff from Deicide’s Hoffman era. Also Amon with Brian and Eric Hoffman. I'm a huge fan. Fascinating are also fast technical bands such as Brain Drill. But speed is not the only thing I’m looking for. There has to be something more, that special thing, a kind of “mojo” if you will. That awesome disturbing extreme sounds blow me away.

Matianak interview by Danny Chaudoin

DANNY  First I want to thank you for taking your time to do this interview. First, can you tell us about Matianak and some history about the band?

ARELYS  My pleasure and thank you for your interest in wanting this interview. Matianak was created and formed by me about 3 years ago. I am the vocalist of the band, write lyrics and song titles, and also make the look and feel of the band and manage Matianak as well.. I have always wanted to form my vision of a black metal band since I was 14 years old. When we say “our music will possess you! “We actually mean it.

DANNY  How about some of the bands and musicians that influenced you, the ones that inspired you to form Matianak and the imagery of the band?

ARELYS  Influenced by many horror movies and survival horror video games such as Silent hill and having a degree and background on character design helped a lot in my influence. I have always been an artistic all my life as a child. I always enjoyed doing talent shows, performing and dancing, and loved being on camera as well. I would draw monsters and demons as soon as I learned how to hold a pencil. I had spawn toys, dragons, demons, and dinosaurs and I was always fascinated as a child on creatures and characters.

INTERVIEW - Memoriam Featured

memoriam

Andy Whale of Memoriam / Bolt Thrower

JET          Andy how old were you when you became interested in drums and were drums the first instrument you were interested in?

ANDY      I was around 14 when i brought my 1st drum kit,at that time it was the only instrument i was interested in. I remember my first kit very well, it was a 5 piece white mother of pearl Premier kit. It was actually part of the first drum kit i used with Bolt Thrower,i bought a second bass drum and painted it white to sort of match,i didn't have much money,so you just made do. I recorded the first 2 demos, the first Peel session and the ‘In Battle there is no law’ album with that kit.

ANDY  The first band i was in,was a punk rock outfit with a few mates from school,it would have been the early 80’s. They we called Urban Chaos,it was good fun we played a few local shows, and nearly got a track on a compilation album, but it was never released.I was probably 18 years old

JET     You were in Bolt Thrower for a good portion of your career what were some of the high points and what were some of the struggles you had with the band?

ANDY  About 9 years.God we had a lot of high points. The chance to do 5 great Death Metal albums,Also the chance to learn our trade as the years went along(i don’t think you could do it the same way nowadays. We did some great tours. But as with many bands, people want different things, and that's what happened. With any band if things aren’t working.Things have to change, that's what happened and it was probably good for the band in the long run...The band went onto great things... Every person in the band.4 vocalist, 2 guitarists, 3 bassists (including Gav), 3 Drummers. Everyone added something to make it a great band.

JET     What caused you to finally leave? Did Karl leave the same time?
